Smallville

Smallville has a library, local history museum and a wooden church built in the 19th century. The library houses a gallery with changing art exhibitions. The municipality also has a historical monument and a nature trail with places of interest relating to nature and the cultural environment, and an observation tower.

Smallville and its partners hold four major annual events: Smallville traditional music festival in the spring, Village Days in the summer, harvest festival in the autumn, and a Christmas carol concert in the church.

Middlehampton

Middlehampton has a library, local history museum, church museum, theater and an art center. The town also has a civic college and music institute.

Structures of fortresses built in the late 18th and early 19th centuries are found within the town, and there are also a variety areas of natural beauty.

Bigchester have several theaters, a film theater, Bigchester Symphony Orchestra, galleries, art museum, Industrial Museum, local cultural history museum and small private museums, Writer’s House, several libraries, music institute, visual arts institute, dance institute, circus school and civil collage. Bigchester has a university of applied sciences, with subjects like media on the curriculum.

Bigchester holds plenty of annual cultural events, such as the GIANT children’s theater festival, Bigchester Wind Instrument Days, Tango at the Sawmill, Night of the Autumn Fires, Medieval Festival, regional design fair, Bigchester Week and the writer Holger Bigswamp Day.

Smallville

The first and second graders of Smallville learn about visual arts by visiting an art exhibition organized by the local art association, with the artist presenting the works of art. After the visit, the artist holds a workshop at the school. This visit is held every second year.

Fairy tale and nursery rhyme events are held for them every year. They also learn about the library with the fifth and sixth graders. They also learn about cultural heritage: the children’s grandparents or care home residents teach children traditional games near the school.

Middlehampton

Middlehampton’s first graders learn about literature and literary art by visiting the library. They also learn about music by attending the Middlehampton Echo Music Festival and the children’s music concert in which the music is played by the music institute’s students. After the concert, the music institute holds a workshop for the pupils.

Bigchester

Bigchester’s first graders learn about literature and literary art. They visit the local library in which they are attend a local poet’s or librarian’s nursery rhyme event or literary art workshop, where they can play with language.

Bigchester’s second graders visit the Industrial Museum, learning about cultural inheritance, among other things. Before the visit, they will work on preliminary assignments. After the visit, a local artist will hold a workshop for them, in which the children and design and manufacture their own item.

Smallville’s third and fourth graders will visit a church and learn about the church’s history, art, architecture and traditions. This visit is held every other year with the church and the local history society. Every other year, the pupils will be visited by a local writer or artist, who will run a workshop for the pupils. Third and fourth graders also use the library a lot.

Bigchester’s third graders will learn about dance and circus. They will go and see a dance performance at a dance institute, and the circus school will run a dance and circus workshop for them at the school.

Middlehampton’s fifth graders will go to the theater: they will watch a performance and learn about what happens behind the scenes, guided by theater professional, such as an actor, director, set designer and costumer. After the visit to the theater, they have a related workshop at the school, run by a local actor, for example.

Bigchester’s fifth graders will learn about theater by seeing a play during the children’s theater festival.

Smallville’s seventh graders will learn about their cultural environment on a nature trail and about various food cultures by trying out ethnic foods during their home economics lessons. They will also visit an art exhibition and take part in an art workshop run by an artist.

Middlehampton’s seventh graders study world cultures. They will take part in events during the International Week, and a workshop will be held for them to learn about different countries’ handicraft traditions.

With the local history society, they will follow local cultural environments during different seasons and participate in their maintenance. A media workshop will be held for ninth graders in cooperation with the library.

Middlehampton’s ninth graders will learn about event production. They will take part in some local event, making a report about it in the form or a video or report. They will also create an event of their own in groups. Ninth graders will receive a Culture Pass, learning about culture on their own outside school hours.
